The Facilities Specialist is responsible for supporting maintenance and operation of the museum’s building spaces, systems, and equipment working efficiently with other internal ICA departments and external vendors to execute building maintenance and event set up and break down needs. The Facilities Specialist will provide technical assistance and support as needed to the Director of Facilities and Facilities Manager. This position is responsible for museum facilities at all three ICA sites: the Museum in Seaport, Seaport Studio, and Watershed (East Boston location). This position is required to work weekends, occasional holidays, and onsite. This is a part-time, hourly position consisting of 22.5 hours a week from Saturday through Monday.

Please note:
- All ICA employees are required to reside in Massachusetts and within commuting distance from our Seaport location as of their first day of work.
Responsibilities:
- Perform various facilities duties as assigned by Facilities Manager at the main museum, Seaport Studio, and the Watershed, including but not limited to movement of furniture, stanchions, signage, building clean ups, storm clean ups, etc.
- Perform facilities opening and closing procedures for the main museum, Seaport Studio and Watershed as assigned and trained by Facilities Manager
- Perform facilities related duties for ICA events and programs as directed by Facilities Manager in collaboration with other ICA staff including events, production, education, and visitor services team
- Respond to unexpected facilities needs or situations in a timely manner as directed by ICA Staff and ICA Security
- Deliver consistent and professional maintenance, facility, and event services
- Prioritize tasks and duties based on order of importance and/or deadlines and proactively ask questions to determine timelines and needs
- Communicate with Facilities Manger to confirm work has been completed and/or resolve questions to ensure work is completed
- Assist Facilities Manager in escorting external vendors for necessary repairs and maintenance while adhering to security and safety protocols
- Respond to urgent requests or building emergencies as needed professionally and collaboratively
- Conduct general housekeeping, clean-up of mechanical and electrical areas
- Complete work in accordance with all applicable safety requirements (e.g. OSHA), codes, and ICA policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- One-year experience in general building maintenance, event support, and/or similar experience
- Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, and execute tasks as assigned
- Ability to work autonomously and with a team and take direction from others
- Ability to problem solve in fast-paced environment
- Ability to patch and paint interior areas
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and peers, as well as vendors and visitors
- Ability to meet deadlines and respond to emergencies
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license
Physical Requirements:
- Possess mobility to work in an office setting and use office equipment; move about throughout the museum and travel between different building locations and off site storage areas
- Ability to see, listen, and talk for extended periods in person, over the telephone, and computer to exchange accurate information with departments and vendors and understand printed materials
- Possess the ability to meet the physical demands of the job, use of ladders, overhead work, including operating mechanical lifts and genies, lifting a minimum of 50 lbs., push, pull, gripping, standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, and bending for long periods may be required
- Must be able to tolerate loud noises for long periods of time and use safety equipment to perform tasks as required

Rate: $25.30 per hour
Compensation is based on meeting minimum qualifications.

Each ICA position has a job grade based on the position’s evaluated job responsibilities, required education and experience, needed skills to perform the job, and professional knowledge. The position’s grade and respective compensation range is determined by the position’s overall responsibilities, including decision making, supervisory/management requirements, resource management and budgeting duties.
Compensation is ultimately determined by the scope of the position and responsibilities, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity, with starting salaries typically falling in the lower half of the compensation range.
