The Education Assistant, Studio Programs supports the development and implementation of studio arts programming for all audiences, including multigenerational, family, and K-12 audiences. The Education Assistant will organize supplies and manage the upkeep and presentation of tools and materials. They will also assist with artwork installations and projects within the Bank of America Art Lab. The Education Assistant will also be one of the lead educators for public programs and outreach efforts. The Education Assistant will work closely with the School, Family, and Art Lab Programs team to develop, prepare, and implement innovative, experiential learning opportunities that inspire and connect people of all ages to the art and issues of our time.  The Education Assistant position requires onsite presence.

The Education Assistant contributes to a culture of collaboration, community and respect while embodying the principles of ICA’s Quality of Service and centers the work of Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion, and Belonging in all areas of their work. This is a full time, hourly position.

WORKING AT THE ICA:

  1. All ICA employees are required to reside in Massachusetts and within commuting distance from our Seaport location as of their first day of work.

Responsibilities:  

  • Work with ICA Education team in developing, preparing, and implementing studio programs, projects, and resources for online, onsite, and offsite purposes 
  • Facilitate art making experiences and support visitors of all ages in their art-making; lead art making experiences that are inclusive and developmentally-appropriate 
  • Maintain studio spaces and ensure that materials are accessible, frequently replenished, well organized, and presentable 
  • Participate in community outreach related meetings, events, and communications as assigned 
  • Support the training of additional staff and volunteers in co-facilitating art making experiences 
  • Maintain knowledge of related artists and artworks; foster connections with works on view at the ICA 
  • Provide administrative support for creative arts programs, to include entering participation data
  • Some evening and weekend work required including open Monday holidays: The schedule for this position is Sunday–Thursday

Qualifications:  

  • BA or BFA in studio art, education, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills; background working with family and youth audiences, a plus 
  • Knowledge of studio art media, materials and processes; ability to teach studio-based lessons and workshops in visual arts to a range of audiences 
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to community outreach and racial/social equity; working knowledge of Boston’s communities a plus
  • Strong organizational skills; desire and willingness to maintain well-organized studio spaces  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; comfort in using various tech applications 
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines as well as on a collaborative team 
  • Demonstrated interest in museum education, contemporary art, and/or creative youth development 
  • Ability to work collegially, professionally and collaboratively with a diverse group of constituents including staff, visitors and vendors
  • Additional language proficiency other than English a plus; proficiency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole highly desired to utilize with ICA visitors
  • Must successfully pass a CORI background check 

Physical Requirements:

  • Possess mobility to work in an office setting and use office equipment; move about throughout the museum
  • Prolonged periods of remaining stationary working on a computer, standing, and/or moving about during art installations and events
  • Ability to see, listen, and talk for extended periods in person, over the telephone and computer, and understand printed materials
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information with visitors, staff, departments, and vendors
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, pushing and pulling, keyboarding and gripping

Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour

Pay rate is based on meeting minimum qualifications.

Each ICA position has a job grade based on the position’s evaluated job responsibilities, required education and experience, needed skills to perform the job, and professional knowledge.

The position’s grade and respective compensation range is determined by the position’s overall responsibilities, including decision making, supervisory/management requirements, resource management and budgeting duties.

Compensation is ultimately determined by the scope of the position and responsibilities, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity, with starting salaries typically falling in the lower half of the compensation range.
