“He is a genealogist of sorts, tracing the bloodlines of Western intellectual history to ask, among other things, how European colonial expansion, environmental plundering and the creation of the museum all relate to the ecological disasters we face today.” —The New York Times

Artist Mark Dion takes on art, science, and our evolving understanding of the natural world in his ICA exhibition Mark Dion: Misadventures of a 21st-Century Naturalist, while Andrea Barrett, author of The Voyage of the Narwahl, Servants of the Map, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and Archangel: Fiction, addresses similar themes in her nationally recognized writings. Join Dion and Barrett as they discuss their creative processes, living in New England, and their interests in our oceans and seas. Ruth Erickson, ICA’s Mannion Family Curator, will moderate the conversation.
